Worker claims retaliation after being fired

On Behalf of | Oct 15, 2019 | Retaliation

It can be difficult to feel singled out in any type of situation, especially if the attention that results is negative. Some workers may find themselves singled out by employers or managers as an act of retaliation for filing a complaint. In some cases, the mistreatment could even come as a dismissal from the job.

New York readers may be interested in this type of event that affected a man in another state. According to reports, the man had worked at a Mercedes-Benz dealership for 30 years and was dismissed from his position in 2017. The man believes that the firing occurred as a form of retaliation after he complained about the manner in which African American customers were treated and about racial slurs used by staff members.

The man indicated that the dealership would overcharge African American customers. He also stated that his employers would use derogatory racial comments while on the job. The company issued a statement indicating that the comments were not used in a sales meeting and that the worker was not harassed at work. Nonetheless, the man has filed a lawsuit against the company for retaliation.

It can be difficult at times to speak up when someone else does something wrong, especially if that person is one’s boss. Still, even if an employee faces retaliation after filing a complaint, that does not have to be the end of the road. New York residents have legal options for addressing such wrongdoing, and affected individuals may want to reach out to employment law attorneys to have their possible cases assessed.
