A former women’s college dean recently claimed that the college discriminated her on the basis of her gender. She has therefore decided to file a lawsuit against the college. Employees in New York who face gender discrimination have the right to take legal action.
According to the former dean’s lawsuit, the college created a work environment that was hostile for her due to her gender. In fact, the woman’s work environment allegedly became so unbearable that she was forced to resign in June of this year. Her resignation took place only 11 months after she had joined the college.
The plaintiff claimed that she joined the college since she thought she would be a part of an empowering and progressive environment. However, she reportedly learned that the president and vice president of the college were manipulating workers with intimidation and fear. She asserted that she faced this treatment when she tried to implement positive changed to enhance students’ and employees’ lives on campus. At one point, the vice president allegedly told her she may have to put her career on hold for the sake of her family after she had to miss a few days of work due to the death of a family member.
If employees in New York are mistreated in the workplace due to their gender, it is within their rights to seek to hold their employers accountable. An understanding of what facts have to be proved is necessary to succeed in this type of case. A successfully fought case may lead to the reinstatement of a job or even monetary relief, depending on the circumstances surrounding the workplace discrimination claim.
