Two black women in New York recently filed a lawsuit against Fox News alleging that they were mistreated on the basis of their race. The women claim that a white executive harassed them and that the network simply ignored their complaints. When employees in New York face race discrimination on the job, it is within their rights to seek to hold their employers legally responsible.
In the out of-state case, the two employees who have filed the lawsuit are a payroll manager and a payroll coordinator. These two workers claim that a comptroller facilitated top-down harassment that resulted in a work environment featuring pervasive and severe harassment and discrimination. They filed their lawsuit in the state’s supreme court on a recent Tuesday.
According to the lawsuit, the comptroller has described black men as women beaters and has claimed that black individuals want to harm white individuals. The comptroller is also said to have claimed that black workers mispronounced particular words, and she also reportedly made comments about one of the women’s credit score and hair. In addition, she allegedly mocked the movement known as Black Lives Matter. This comptroller did end up getting fired for her behavior following an internal investigation at the company.
Race discrimination is illegal, but it continues to occur in New York and other parts of the country. If workers experience this form of discrimination, they may choose to file claims against their employers. Remedies from a successfully fought suit might include compensation for emotional harm as well as coverage of suit-related costs paid out of pocket.
